Daniel Turner (b. Rochdale 1974) is a British artist living and working in Cornwall, UK. He studied Fine Art, specialising in Painting, at Falmouth University. Working primarily in oil painting and drawing, Turner investigates both the formal and physical nature of the medium, as well as the often mythologised tasks and rituals of the painter.
Turner works on multiple paintings simultaneously, revising and reworking them over several years. He describes this process as a form of History Painting, more precisely, an imagined history of painting, sustained through an ongoing dialogue with those who came before him. Built slowly in the studio and refracted through its rhythms, his paintings bear the marks of continual change, carrying the traces of shifting thoughts and feelings regarding The Painter, The Painting, and The Studio.
