This exhibition offers a unique glimpse into Clark's interpretation of seaside towns. His skillful use of palette and texture captures the faded, sun-bleached colours characteristic of these locations. Clark’s paintings vividly portray the serene yet complex beauty of seaside architecture, bringing to life the houses, people, and intricate details that define these environments. With a keen eye for the charged and nostalgic atmosphere of these settings, his works evoke a sense of familiarity and longing.
Clark’s fascination with seaside towns is deeply rooted in his upbringing in similar environments, growing up in both Cornwall and Mallorca. This personal connection infuses his work with authenticity and passion. Alongside Clark's paintings, we are pleased to showcase his father, photographer Trevor Clark's latest book, THE PACKAGE HOLIDAY 1968 - 1985. This nostalgic publication spans 120 pages and offers a captivating look at the early days of British package holidays. "Factor Two Sunscreen, Brightly-Coloured Speedos, and Duty-Free Cigarettes by the Pool" features Trevor Clark's collection of technicolor photographs that capture the joy and leisure of early package holidays abroad.
Both the paintings and photographs serve as a nostalgic celebration of a bygone era.
