Trevor Price is a renowned artist who specialises in handmade and hand-printed drypoint prints at his studios in London and St. Ives. In 1994, he was elected as a member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and later served as their Vice President from 2013-2018.
Price's latest series of seascape and woodland prints are created by carving and scraping the plate with a drypoint needle and a dremel. This meticulous process is time-consuming and leaves little room for error. Once the plate is prepared, ink is rolled over its surface and passed through an etching press on damp paper.
Price intends his work to be viewed up close, where the viewer can become lost in the intricate mark-making and abstractions. However, from a distance, the prints take on a highly representational and almost photographic quality,despite being completely handmade and printed by hand.
Price's work can be found in various collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, the Guangdong Museum of Art in China, the Yinchuan Contemporary Art Museum in China, Yale University in the USA, the Office of Public Works in Dublin, and The Bank of England.
Over the years, Price has received several national printmaking awards, including the Printmaking Today Award at the Royal Society of Painters-Printmakers 2017 exhibition. In 2020, he was commissioned by China's National Academy of Painting to create a large relief print which was exhibited at China's National Art Museum in Beijing.
