Henny van der Meer bends, clips, slices, and welds steel, her material of choice, for days, building seemingly featherweight wall sculptures.
In my work, connecting and branching is an important theme, such as the seed takes root and then grows into a trunk that branches off again. It makes clear that one cannot arise without the other. Without seeds, no roots, without roots, no trunk and branches.
I bend and press the metal into forms, allowing branches to grow. I then, where necessary, prune it back. The piece can be made small, but can also continue to grow.
