If in need of an antidote to the purveyors of gloom, then look no further. Augustine + Bridgland – these two men who paint as one, create abstract designs of inflated florescence. Think sunny gardens ripe with floribunda, think Monet and mothers curtains, think the emotionally charged blooms of Emil Nolde, but think also of the whip-smart commercial screen prints of Andy Warhol.

Royal College of Art graduates Danny Augustine and Adam Bridgland collaborated for the first time for their sell out exhibition, Flowers For Your Darlings, at Jealous Gallery, London in May 2014. Since then they have gone on to complete projects for Heals, London, Comme Des Garcons and Junya Watanabe, as well as private commissions in the United Kingdom and the USA. Their most recent exhibition entitled Sordidum Somnium was held here at CIRCLE in May 2019.

They started painting together almost by accident, developing from an initial interest in combining imagery and text. This was soon developed when work sessions started in the Jealous Print Studio and Danny and Adam realised the success of the work was to combine their two creative styles to produce the huge expressive floral works that filled the exhibition. After separating the sections on the print area the pair work quickly on the screen to create the imagery. The nature of the process means that they do not have time to think and allow inhibitions to take hold. With the inks drying into the screen the painting is very free, the marks quick as the pair dance around the mesh to complete each image.
