Blue Blue Ocean: Shelley Anderson | Floor 2

Overview

CIRCLE are showing the bold and beautiful turquoise and patinated bronze wall reliefs of metalworker Shelley Anderson.

From the deep turquoise seas of the pacific ocean to the highest turquoise domes on the mosques of Iran, from the turquoise mines of California, famous for Navaho Indian Jewellery, to our own turquoise coves in Cornwall – Turquoise blue is the colour of life and the afterlife, a colour virtually everybody loves for its positive vibrations. Shelley Anderson's wall reliefs have a sedate beauty – they create a visual space for contemplation.

Shelley’s hand shaped bronze wall reliefs are inspired by his boyhood living in west Cornwall and his current lifestyle free diving and fishing in and around Newlyn. Titles such as LOW TIDE, LOOKING TO THE ISLAND and FLOW say it all.

Shelley continually experiments with new and innovative techniques which compliment his metal working skills learnt at Falmouth College of Art. Starting with a flat sheet of metal Shelley forms the undulating shapes by hand. By working in different metals, recycled materials and chemical patinas, he allows the end result to be free, spare and organic.
