Marie-Jose Robben’s impasto oil paintings sing of flat windy coast walks in south Holland, a fresh take on the Dutch landscape tradition

Marie José Robben (1959, Loon op Zand) is a Dutch painter, who attended the Koninklijke Academie voor Kunst en Vormgeving (Royal Academy of Art and Design) in Den Bosch (1979-1985) and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) in Amsterdam (1985-1988) and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

 

She studied among others under the Dutch teachers Ger Lataster and Jan Sierhuis. Her work is colourful and has a firm texture and touch. She made a number of portraits of famous painters of the past. Now sea and landscapes are her favourite subjects. She works from and lives in Amsterdam. Marie José Robben has had many solo exhibitions since 1987 including a solo show at Chapelle de Petits Augustins in Paris, Ter Haarstraat, Amsterdam, 2017, Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle and Castle Heino, 2016 and Bergkerk, Deventer, 2015.
