This form is descended from Hunping funerary jars enabling me to create a surface that would lend itself to telling a narrative. The flexibility of the form that can be split up and rearranged gives the user of the vessel ability to create different narratives as they use it in different ways. The ritual element of the historical vessel is enacted by the placement of the incense burner as a finial, and the firing process where ash is used as a key part of the surface result is a nod to the origins of the form perhaps as a cinerary vessel.
