Overview
Clark Broadwood-Smith (b.1995) was born in Cambridge, UK. He studied Sculpture & Fine Arts at Norwich University of the Arts and afterwards went on to travel extensively and upon returning endeavoured to learn the traditional crafts of his region, Suffolk. Working alongside master thatchers, sculptors, bronze foundries and wood carvers, he applied his practical learnings and acquired skills to his very own form of contemporary sculpture.
“I currently work from my studio near Framlingham in Suffolk. It’s an old pottery which was once the studio of the renowned artist Robin Welch. He’s was an inspiring artist for me and his past presence defiantly feeds into my work. It’s from here I make most of my work. I’m always aiming to make work which cross references cultures or civilisations. Whether that is Neo-lithic, Estrucan or Aboriginal, it doesn't matter to me, I just want to observe it all in my own way, I find it nourishing.”
Broadwood-Smith's work has been exhibited in shows and galleries across the UK & London. He has also exhibited and worked overseas, most notably in 2022 he was awarded a traveling scholarship to Italy (Rome) from the Royal Society of British Artists, as the winner of the Rising Stars Exhibition in Mayfair, London.
