Susan Bleakley

WE ARE GOING TOWARDS THE SEA
Floor 2 + Online 2022年4月16日 - 5月14日 Last summer, painter Zoe Benbow and conceptual artist Sally Hampson joined John O Carroll for a week in North Cornwall. This exhibition is a paean to the Cornish coastline and the sea.
Like so many people for so many reasons, both Sally, John and Zoe are bewitched by the sea. The sea is both mother and mirror, the inbreathe and expiration, the leaving and returning - artists and poets have always felt the sea is a conduit for the imagination, its euphonious sound seeping deep into their psyche. 继续 -

Tony Wilson: Turn Turn Turn
Floor 2 2021年9月16日 - 9月30日 CIRCLE are very pleased to have the opportunity of showing examples of Tony Wilsons beautiful visual diaries, watercolour sketches and paintings which chronicle his daily life. Tony is a revelatory visual diarist in the mould of artists like William Blake, Frida Kahlo, Charlotte Solomon and singer songwriter Joni Mitchell to name but a few. As well as conventional landscape paintings and roundels depicting pastoral village life. Wilson, in Hockney vein, paints 360 degree panoramas - huge spherical acrylic bands like lampshades hang lopsidedly from the ceiling: this eccentric format illustrates scenes of tony’s home and garden. 继续 -

Joni Sternbach
A Selection of New Limited Edition Prints Now Showing On Floor 1 2021年8月10日 - 9月21日 Posing on rocky outcrops, in front of uprooted trees, or on thick mats of woody flotsam, Sternbach’s surfers inhabit strange landscapes. The best of Sternbach’s photographs convey insistent longing. They are about relationships – the relationship between surfer and board, between human and landscape, between photographer and subject, and between the surfers themselves…she has discovered a new sort of home – a place without walls, defined only by belonging and the physicality of existence. 继续 -
A PLACE OF PASSAGE
NICHOLAS ARROYAVE-PORTELA, HELEN BOOTH , EMILY CROOKSHANK 2021年8月7日 - 8月31日 The gallery is delighted to announce that we will for the first time be showing work from celebrated British abstract artist Helen Booth, whose latest oil paintings are the result of a recent residency in Iceland and depart from the mark mapping typical in her practice. The pre-Columbian pottery style of British-born artist Nicholas Arroyave-Portela derives from his Latin American roots; using materials from the earth, the artist has produced an incredible body of work over the past two decades informed by his experience of migration. Printmaker Emily Crookshank, who explores line and form with a tonally minimal palette and who, since relocating to Scotland has mastered the craft of etching, and in the process discovered the limitless nature of printmaking.
Unifying all of the artists’ works is the influence of nature, and the use of natural materials to create original art forms that allude to heritage, the passing of time, place, and connection through being. 继续 -

Pleasure-go-round
Simon Gaiger and Bernard Irwin | Floor 2 2021年7月3日 - 7月31日 Openly decorative and anxiety free: In these paintings and coloured sculptures we are reminded of the guiltless museum art of 60’s America and the post Matissean paintings of Morris Louis and Kenneth Noland whose shapes were a prop for colour. Nolan said in 1969 “I want to have colour be the origin of painting” - like Noland, Irwin and Gaigers works tease us with gorgeous colour - formal hedonism. 继续 -

Amy Wright
New paintings now showing on floor 1 | Spring 2021 2021年4月12日 - 6月18日 In the paintings of Australian artist Amy Wright the viewers eye is constantly moving about the picture plain – moving from one succulent patch of foliage to another, hovering, unable to find a resting place – we are left in suspension.
