Rod Nelson

Rod is a self taught artist based in Gloucestershire who specialises in making woodblock prints. He has a unique approach using tools and techniques that he has spent many years refining. His work, which is themed around observations of water, reflection and flow has been selected for several important national and international exhibitions, including the Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, the International Print Centre of New York, the Royal West of England Academy and the Shanghai International Woodblock Print Exhibition.

His work, all printed by hand by the artist, is created in small, signed and limited editions on high quality archival grade papers using light-fast, vegetable oil-based inks.

Inspiration for Rod comes from nature, the landscape and the work of other printmakers from a variety of traditions in Europe and the Far East. He is co-author (with Merlyn Chesterman RE) of the successful book ‘Making Woodblock Prints’ and was a founder member of the print collective Pine Feroda.
