Overview

Trees are precious. There is little else on Earth that plays host to such a rich community of life within a single living organism.  - Sir David Attenborough

During this long isolated winter, our artists who live in the West country and Wales have turned away from the coastal gales and found their muse in the kindly company of birdsong and trees.

The tree is our mirror, the most potent and universally loved symbol of life, death and renewal. The paintings of Constable, Van Gogh and David Hockney pulsate with the vitality of trees. Artists and makers are forever finding new ways to portray the tree and describe the qualities of it’s wood.
